One book I have reviewed is called Living Write, by Kelly Stone. There is a CD with meditations for writers included with the book.
Kelly believes that writing every day is very important. Make a writing schedule and stick to it. She states that it is helpful to write out your vision, using milestones, for example, one year up to 5 years. Start with small goals, and write them out and put them in a place where you see them everyday. This will help enforce positive daily habits and add motivation.
Self doubt weakens your will to write everyday...if you don't believe you can be successful. Stone thinks that modelling other authors, (not copying of course), helps your craft. It's helpful to learn how other people write, especially authors that you admire. Role modelling helps with inspiration to over come long term obstacles. She also suggests creating a "keeper's shelf." This is where you put your special books aside and use them for reference. Classics are good examples.
One important tip she shares, is keep your writing to yourself until you are finished. That surprised me. The reason, is that if you tell the whole story too soon, then it eliminates the inspiration to finish, especially if it is a novel. She says that it is helpful to re read the previous sections that you wrote in order to keep the flow going. I have done this too.
