You probably have been hearing a lot about which fats you should eat. Confusing? This post will explain some facts that you should know about the difference between good fats and bad fats.
There are books, and then there are websites which talk about good fats vs bad fats. Who should you listen to? Take the information you get, and when you hear it from a variety of medical sources, then you know it's probably good advice. Listen to the experts. Why is it important to avoid bad fats?
Bad fats contribute to a number of chronic health problems, including, high insulin levels and cardio vascular disease, and possibly even some types of cancer. According to Dr. Erasmus the cholesterol scare is big business for medical companies and pharmacueticals. In his book "The cholesterol Hoax, Sheldon Zerdern states that "The cholesterol myth represents the greatest swindle in the history of nutrition. He says that instead, we need to look at a diet of health food and unprocessed foods to lower blood sugar and obesity rates.
New studies have found a link between Alzeimers and excessively low fat diets. This is because healthy fats stabilize blood sugar.
Cholesterol only becomes a problem when there is an insufficiency of enzymes and fiber. The body manufactures cholesterol naturally. Dr Erasmus says that the big problem is caused by blood impurities and deposits that come from a diet composed on denatured and cooked foods. What are the bad fats?
Don't cook with any oils that contain EFA's. Corn oil and sun flower seed oils are harmful because they have been put though a destructive process to increase their shelf life. They are so over- processed that the body can't break them down, and they become toxic.
You may have heard of something called trans fats or hydrogenated oils. These are found in packaged foods. Things like peanut butter and packaged cookies and crackers. The US recently band the use of trans fats in food. I wonder if other countries will soon follow. They have been linked to some serious chronic diseases.
Having said this, many people are oil deficient because they aren't getting enough of the essential oils. You can add olive oil and hemp oils to your diet. If you have dry eyes or skin then you may benefit from an oil supplement. They must be of good quality. You can also supplement your diet with omega oils and MCT oil. The use of coconut oils has exploded. Make sure you check the quality. You only need about one teaspoon per day.
What are the best healthy fats?
A healthy fat diet is composed of omega 3's and omega 6's. Fats found in real food such as butter and olive oil. Other healthy oils to include are hemp oil and coconut . Avacodos are one of the healthiest fats you can have in your diet. They actually lower the bad cholesterol. Let's not forget about fish oils like salmon.
It's the cooking oils you need to monitor. Remember that at high temperatures their structure changes. It's important to read labels now, more then ever before.
